To make grading easier on Linda:

Jason Mansfield = green

April Dickerman = orange

Melissa Eudy=blue

Colin Shannon: Red

Max=Purple

OK, Team. I figure it will be easier to do our PSA planning on a clean document. We’ll keep the same colors.

To start off, just in case we’re already trying to plan responsibilities, I do Public Address announcing at my high school baseball field, so whenever we do the voiceover, I’ll volunteer for that duty

Ok, I think I would be best at something having to do with editing or getting the product in a finished format and/or maybe some kind of organization part of the project. I am definitely NOT great at the speaking part.

What about a topic. We should brainstorm some topics here:

Internet safety
Staying healthy, like germs, etc.

Also found this document, haven’t looked at it really carefully, but might be helpful. http://www.coveringkidsandfamilies.org/actioncenter/files/PSAComplete.pdf

Considering my English background, I think I could work well on the script, proofreading, and general finishing type work. Or y'all could do it and I can take a nap (just seeing if everyone is coherent after all that turkey). I will go look at the document you found, April. I think we should figure out a topic as quick as possible.

I’m certainly in favor of the cause of covering kids, of health insurance. I always wonder about my kids, about their health, especially with so many of my kiddos living with one parent, grandparents, etc. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to do a PSA about either health insurance, or even about something within health, such as the importance of getting vaccines. Thoughts?

I can definitely edit the video and audio if someone wants to come up with the storyboard. I can even shoot some of the video depending on the subject. Internet safety could be easy to shoot some kids using the computer with a voiceover in the background. Maybe take a few over the shoulder shots showing the kids on the computer. If someone else wants to shoot some additional video or do the voiceover we can post the larger files to a dropbox account I have.

We just have to make sure we record any audio in a standard format, mp3 and wav is easy to work with. Video needs to be mp4 if possible, most cameras output to that format these days. my software can deal with avi, but no wmv files.

In 60 seconds we could have someone on the team shoot a quick intro introducing the topic, then follow up with scenes of kids at work on the video while someone does a voiceover with some tips on how to use the internet safely and then followup up with a final shot of someone doing the closing few seconds. It would go along with the “technology leadership” theme and it is something we have studied in this program.

I also have loops for background music to layer onto the psa and voice over.

Looks like a good idea. I think you may have just given the storyboard for us, if everyone is ok with internet safety. The only thing I thought of, since it’s education technology,we probably wouldn’t be the only ones with that idea. The good thing is though, internet safety is easy, relevant to all ages, and more than doable in 60 seconds. Max, can you put .mp3/.mp4 into video? Once I get the video, I can definately do a voice over, if you can put it into a video. And, once we agree on the topic, I can work with someone to do the storyboard. April, since you’re good with organization, and you started us with the idea for Internet safety, why don’t we work together to do a storyboard, you and Melissa could write the script and edit, Max could shoot it and combine audio/video, I’ll do the voiceover, and Jay can dig up copyright and fair use information as well as any appropriate music. What else do we need? We’ll also need to collaborate and get our assignment stuff in order, since there’s so much to fill out this week!

Internet safety sounds good and practical. What do you think if we started the script with:
“Fact: blah, blah, blah,” (picture)
“Fact: blah, blah, blah” (picture)
“Fact: blah, blah, blah” (picture)
“Now that we know there is a problem, what can we do about it?” (video of person talking)
Then maybe give solutions that reference back to the facts stated at the beginning.
I will look at specific facts having to do with Internet safety so we have a place to start.

If you like the proposed format for the script, let me know and I will get started.

Sorry, just checked this this morning. I would be more than happy to help work on the storyboard and help edit the script.

OK, thought I would slap some ideas down on paper. Obviously this is a very rough outline kinda thing. I only put it on here to see if this is the direction y’all want to go. Does this sound like what y’all were thinking about. Let me know!

The Internet is a great opportunity for children and teens to learn about the world around them. However, there are dangers lurking in chat rooms, social networking sites, emails and seemingly harmless websites.
What kind of dangers are we talking about?
There are 3 main types:
Cyber bullying, online solicitations, and sexual content.
So, what can parents do to help their children wade through these dangerous waters?
Try installing filtering software that is constantly updated
Place the family computer in an open area
Surf the Internet with young children
Use parental control software the teen e-mail accounts
Create a parent-child Internet safety contract
Make sure your child knows to not give out personal information
And, most importantly, discuss these issues with your children and teens. They need to learn how to identify cyberbullies, predators, and inappropriate content.

Looks great, Melissa! Let’s go with it!

going with a rough storyboard here (Edit away, April!)

  1. The Internet is a great opportunity for children and teens to learn about the world around them. (Photo of students using computers)
  2. However, there are dangers lurking in chat rooms, social networking sites, emails and seemingly harmless websites. (photo of “African Prince” e-mail)
  3. What kind of dangers are we talking about?
  4. There are three main types: cyber bullying, online solicitations, and sexual predators (photo of Jason with a sign saying “I’m 13, wanna meet?”
  5. So, what can parents do to help their children wade through these dangerous waters? (Photo of woman/man with hands out in “I don’t know” motion. Maybe Melissa in her “panic” face from her digital story?) You can have my picture if you need it :0 No copyright issues!
  6. Try installing filter software that is updated constantly (Logos of filtering software)
  7. Place the family computer in open area (parent with child on computer)
  8. Surf the Internet with young children
  9. Use parental control software the teen e-mail accounts
  10. Create a parent-child Internet Safety contract (photo of a contract)
  11. make sure your child knows not to give out personal information
  12. And, most importantly, discuss these issues with your children and teens (photo of family discussion)

WOW, You guys rock! Had my Birthday yesterday, birthday dinner tonight, and my wifes birthday tomorrow so I have been running this week. Just trying to get caught up and got here to see you all did this already. What can I do? I was thinking helping with the editing and possibly the storyboard. Or maybe adding music to the background of the psa. I listen to several instrumental bands so there is no voice to mess up the music.
Looks great so far. Internet safety is a great idea. My kids at school are clueless about it.

Just saw the video and she says four people per Group. Should we get permission just to be safe? Or maybe just give them a heads up?

We have done several projects together and worked this class together so far so I don’t think it would be a problem, but just want to cover all bases.

*Idea: Why don’t we each create a picture of ourselves to be used during the video. We can each pick something related to internet safety and create a picture of it. For example I won’t shave for a couple days and will get a pic of myself with huge font saying “I am only 13, can we meet somewhere?”. Then someone else can take a pic with their child showing them something related to a safety idea. Another one of us can be have an email open that say something about some African prince giving free money if we give him our bank account #. The pics can be taken over the shoulder or rear side so they show us (the team members) and the computer screen. We can use very large font. Just an idea, but I thought that would tie each group member into the video.

I like the idea of the shots. Can I just use my “panic” picture, referenced in Colin’s storyboard” or do I need another one? Also, we might want to check with Linda about the number, but I really think I read somewhere that 3-5 was ok. Looks like we may have the best PSA in the class!

Jason, we’ll need you to get the copyright information for this and post it. Also, I like the idea of all of us getting a picture. i can get both of my parents by the computer for the “discuss the issues with your parents.” Can you shoot/put together the video, then send it to max for the editing? Or, Max, were you shooting and editing? I got mixed up. let me know so we can get moving on this project!

I’m supposed to be working on the storyboard but haven’t been able to. Will work on it tomorrow & post first thing on Saturday morning.

I got any and all copyright info. Just let me know what I need to do and you got it. What song are we going to use in the background? Do y’all want to do the pics. There are some great areas in the script we can put them into. Should I be a creepy guy(I have a beard so I figured that would help) or take a picture with the kids blocking their eyes from something bad on the screen?

If you can post the copyright info for us all to put into our assignments and include at the end of the video, we’ve got it. You can be creepy guy, and I’ll get the screenshot of the “African Prince” e-mail. I think I just got one not too long ago. And, we’ve got Melissa’s “panic” photo

Earlier someone asked about group number. I emailed Linda and she said 3-5. We’re good to go then. I really like the creepy guy thing. My youngest son just finished “no shave November” or he would have been a great creepy guy.
We can tailor the script to make the most “entertaining” pictures. So, if you have an idea of an interesting photo op, we will just add it in. Otherwise, sounds pretty good. I will get on the assignment and make sure what “parts” we need to fill in for this week. I know this is going to be a work in progress, but I think we have a really good plan.

Here is a link to a google doc where I put the week 3 assignment. It reformatted it a little, but it’s ok. I filled in the blanks to the best of my ability. All of the fill-ins are in blue so they are easier to see. Y’all might want to go check and see what you can fill-in. I thought this way we would have all the information in one place and we could copy and paste it into our assignment for this week. This is only an idea. If you have a better plan, please add it.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/17pJtg6aD5ARxOBZw-84mId6ULKE6DCAKz6RpgMsUkyY/edit?hl=en_US

Melissa, I can’t get into the google doc. Did you share it with us?

Would it be a bad idea to use a photo of Jerry Sandusky (Penn State Coach) as “creepy guy?”

Maybe somewhat inappropriate just because it is so recent. What about Michael Jackson?

Either would be bad I think. :) People love MJ and sandusky is too recent. I will put a bathrobe on and have messy hair sitting in front of the computer. When will we need to picture by? Just requested permission for the google doc melissa.

How are we filling this in?

Director(s)
Scriptwriter(s)
Talent Jason Mansfield,
Camera operator(s)
Editor(s) Jason Mansfield (music)

Ok, had a moment (that’s what I get for making the doc right before school starts). Now, everybody has rights. I figure we put in what we do for the above box.

That’s what I did. I figure we can all go into the “talent” box, since all of us will have picture credits

We still need to brainstorm some more pictures for the storyboard for #3, 8, 9, and 11. According to the assignment we need information about what each shot will be.
I need to think of what my picture will be.
Here is the storyboard document I started. I put in an idea for pictures for #3, 8, 9, and 11.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FvlM0ux5QxDgh6Sr8khgV5YECXK7kjemHOBS3qEMGMI/edit?hl=en_US#
I filled in some of this into the Week 3 Assignment doc Melissa started. I am going to finish the shot list and then copy & paste into Melissa’s doc.I have a friend with a 5 year old and a 9 year old that might take some of the pictures with kids in them if we need them to. We can tell her 9 year old he is going to be in a production and he will be super excited! :)

Great story board. Jason, can you post the copyright stuff for us to fill in?

Working on the cutting some music right now. Curious as to what pictures we are going to use so I can post the copyright info. I know we have several of us so we will not need to copyright that unless you want me to put the copyright for each person that took the picture. Just checked on APA for pics. It would look like Man looking at computer, By Jason Mansfield, 2011. Are we using any pics from the internet? I have read the script and could not find any quotes that I need to site copyright for.

OK, great. I think we’re going to be using mostly clip art and our own pictures. The only thing we need to check the copyright on is the logo for filtering software. Also, I found an African Prince tye e-mail this morning, so I highlighted the text, put it into a new message, blew up the size, screen shot it, and saved.

Colin Trying to put an MP3 of two songs I cut to use. Do you know how to do that to google docs?

hmm...you might have to load it to your website for this class and give us the link. I don’t see how to load .mp3 to google doc. Also, will I be able to use an .mp3 file to record our script so it can be spliced in to our video?

If you use Audacity you can splice them together. That is how I did the music in the background on my assignment last week. You can adjust the volume also. You can lower the music and raise your voice. Have we found the pics yet, or should i look them up so I can get hte copyright info?

WOW! 2 hours trying to figure out how to upload MP3’s to Google docs and I quit. Took five minutes to do to my wiki.

Here is the link of two edited songs that are 1 minute that we can put in the background of the PSA. Post which one you like better.

http://jaysmed.wikispaces.com/Music+for+project

Copyright info for the two songs is on the google docs assignment. I also just uploaded three separate pictures onto the story board. The copyright info was also put on the doc. Let me know if you want me to pull up more. What time is everyone going to be here tomorrow to finish up? I have church then will be here all afternoon.

I can be on here around 1 or 2. I have church early, then planning for next week (luckily only 3 lessons because of Benchmarks), so that seems like a good time for me

I have church & grocery store, then will be here. But have to leave the house around 4:30 again to go to handbell choir rehearsal. I just assumed we would mostly use our own pics with just a few from the internet. Should I get my friend to take some with her kids and send them to me? I guess we would then have to have some sort of permission from her to use

I have church, too. Then lunch with my son and his family. They have a computer so I can get on around 2. The story board is looking good. We need a director (Colin?) and a cameraman (all of us? considering we are using pictures from everyone?). We need to make sure we have all the blanks filled tomorrow and that everyone is including the save information. April, I think using your friends kids would be good if they don’t mind. That might fill in some gaps. We would probably only want like one kid in one shot and another kid in another shot. Since all of our other pictures are random, I don’t think we would want several of the same family. It might be nice for the “contract shot” to be with the 9 year old. He could be making a face like “WHAT?” or he could be deep in contemplation about the significance of the contract. Good idea Melissa, I will get her to take one of her husband and little one using the computer and then get him to take one of her with the 9 year old using the computer and then the 9 year old looking at the contract.
Jay, I liked both pieces. Could we use the Linkin Park piece for the beginning when it is “dramatic” about the problems and then switch to the Explosion in the Sky piece for the “calmer” solutions part? Really good choices.

I just reviewed everyone’s input and it looks great. A couple of things to remember...first let’s try to stay away from any copyrighted material or pictures. I think they will hammer us on the grade if we use anything that could remotely be someone else’s music or pictures. I don’t mind using photos, but I think they need to be interspersed with some live video. I think I can shoot some video for shots 1, 7,8, 10 and maybe 9. If you can send me the pics you want in the video I can combine them with some video. You can also email me the voiceover mp3 or any other audio to mwindham at me dot com (sorry trying to keep the spam bots from getting my email address). I’ve also set up a shared dropbox folder let me know if you want to drop pics, or audio files there...I will need an email address to send you the invite.

I also think we need to include some small info on cell phones/smart phones just as a reminder in our PSA that the dangers on the internet just are not when kids on on a computer. Let me know what you think.

the whole issue of the “creepy guy”; I think we need to stay away from using anyone in a picture or video and be a little more metaphorical; if we just do a shot of someone looking at a screen with surprise or have a picture of a parent covering their kids eyes or ears (see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil type of symbolic pic) I think people will get the message. I wouldn’t want to associate anyone on the team or a public figure with the “creepy” guy label both for legal and ethical reasons.

The software I have for editing video and audio is multitrack capable so it will be no problem fading the music and pulling the voiceover to the front.

Just fill me in on what ever you all decide, hate to say this but I will be away most of the day on Sunday...Texans have a home game so that’s where I will be most of the day. Probably be back from the game around 4:30pm

Sure, I’ll be the director, no problem. I feel like since I’m at an Elementary School and this week is benchmarks, I have a little more time to look over things and do anything that needs to get done. Max, I think on the issue of the “creepy guy” photo, since it’s one of us, and we make that clear, then we’re in the clear. I understand what you mean by the thought of one of us associated with the online predator concept. In response to the copyright issue, there is a box at the bottom dealing with all of the copyright issues and permission (fair use and all that applies here). Also, since these are all our pictures, of us or our families (save for one or two), copyright doesn’t look like an issue to me. Also, it sounds like an .mp3 is ok, so as soon as we decide that the script is final, I’ll record it and ship it. I’ve got a pic or two, so I’ll put it in the drop box this afternoon

Max, I like the idea of using some videos mixed with the stills. However, we are going to need some information to load into the storyboard assignment. If you send me the drop box link, I will add my picture. I think Jay has the copyright info covered. Unless someone has access to copyright free music or is a composer, I think we are going to have to use something that is under copyright. I’m not sure we should tackle the cell phone thing. That might be something we could look at adding when we have a more finished project and see how it would fit with everything else.
Max, we also have a running doc for the assignment. You need to add your name in the appropriate boxes and you can add your ideas for videos.
I think the biggest thing to complete today is deciding if we are using the videos or pictures in the storyboard. Can we put both in the storyboard and choose later as the video is put together?

Yes, I think we can put both in the storyboard and choose later. It did say that this was a work in progress and that we are supposed to change it as we move along toward week 5. I think we should include both. In fact, I think I read that we are supposed to include both. As for including cell phone, I don’t think it is a bad idea, but I just wonder if we can stay in the time limit if we do include it. Maybe we should wait and see if we can fit it in. Or maybe just have a blurb at the end, with exactly what Max said “dangers on the internet just are not when kids on on a computer” with a picture of a smart phone. Video for shots 7 - 10 would be good. Maybe a whole scene there with the parents and kids. Max maybe your kids would be willing to do this? Hope it’s ok, but I filled Max into some of the blanks on the assignment. I also changed the photos to video in shots 7 - 10 for now. If we change it later, that’s ok. I will check back later and see what’s going on! :)

In regard to the copyright issue, I researched how to site in APA formate music and pictures randomly taken from internet. Also, we are making a PSA for educational purposes and there is no profit involved, so that goes along with Fair Use Guidlines. When do we need to take the home picture? I take it this week is just planning so we do not have to have everything together, just demonstrate we are working. That is what I think too. I think so, too. That’s what I think as well.

On another note, I am looking to get all I can done during this week. I was invited for the first time to go deer hunting next Saturday at a neighbors ranch. I have learned through past experience if you don’t go the first invite typically no more follow. I will be gone all Saturday and half of sunday so I want to make sure all my stuff is in by then so I don’t put any of y’all behind.

Phases of planning needs to be finished on the assignment google doc. I am filling mine out, but we all need to be on the same page.

After looking at all the comments and docs, it looks like everything is in order except for “schedule of deliverables”. We should probably decide on a date for pictures and video to be submitted to Max, say next Wed. (Jay, I know you already have one on there, but we might want to give us some extra time for everybody to get it done and that will give us a little more leeway). Also we might add a date for a dry run of the video for all of us to critique and make any needed changes. That would probably need to be in week 5 (also just to give us some leeway). Can y’all think of any other items that need to be included in that box? I added the 2 dates I talked about onto the assignment doc. If you disagree, let me know and I will (or you can) change it. I also added Colin as a storyboard editor.

Next Wednesday works, 12/7. I like it, Pearl Harbor Day. Let;sdo a dry run on 12/10 or 12/11. What do you all think? I’m going to record the script (I'm assuming it’s finalized) on Monday and ship it to Max and Jason on Tuesday morning before I leave for work. I’m more than happy to look it over. I think the 16th is when the whole thing is due, and We’re pretty much stopping instruction on 12/14, so I can definitely come home and devote 100% of my time to the project that whole week. This week is a good time to have the brunt of the project, if only because there is little-nothing to grade this week save for exams. I think with all we have, we will be crunching the time limit, so putting a cell phone thing in there will likely put us over the limit. Besides, most people think computers hen they think cyber safety, so let’s stick to that. I saw a 30 second PSA that got its point across really well recently, so it’s what I think of as a benchmark for our project. If I find it again, I’ll post it. I’m really happy with the way our project is proceeding.

I changed the dates on the assignment doc and have put all of that on my assignment for this week. I will check back around 6 to see if there are any changes. Unless something changes, I plan to turn in the assignment as it is on the assignment doc.

Me too Melissa! I want to get it turned in by 8 p.m. if possible. Thanks everyone!

Just a request, if you change the assignment or storyboard doc, would you mind using a different color so it will be easy to spot. Thanks!

Just remember this is a plan, I wouldn’t worry about if we make changes later. I feel that they want to see our direction and if small things change it should not be a problem.

Also I have some royalty free music and loops that we can use as background music.

Max, Can you send me the music and I will mix it with Colin’s voice? Either email or post it to your wiki and send me the link. I can download it from there. Then I will ship that back out before the weekend so it can be edited with the pics. Again, I will be away Friday and Saturday and back Sunday afternoon so I want to make sure my part is done before I head out to Benavides. I will be out of contact with civilization for 2 days playing Man Vs. Wild.

Just posted Creepy guy on dropbox.
https://www.dropbox.com/home/Lamar%20EDLD%205363#:::84709342

Tried here, but the file was too big. When made smaller you could not make out the words on the computer.

I thought the idea of dropbox was to be able to move large files. Did you try taking another picture. Anybody else have any ideas? Dropbox worked fine. Tried to post it here and it didn’t work. The drop box link is above.

Sorry I haven’t been on in a few days. Where are we and what do I need to be doing? - April

How are we doing? I am trying to get everything done before I leave for Saturday. I will be back Sunday morning or early afternoon so I can do any audio then. Any opinions on the pic. Didn’t come out like I wanted, but it gets the point across. From farther back you couldn’t read the screen that well and I felt like that was the main point of the pic.

I thought it looked pretty good. And, the narration will aid the perception of what is seen in the picture.
Just logged onto EPIC and was reminded that our assignment is due on FRIDAY not Sunday. Do we want to attach a copy of week 5 so that we all have the same information? How is the formatting of the video going? I added this part of the assignment to the doc since it extends beyond the creation of the PSA. This will give everyone a chance to think and plan what they are going to post.

5.As a team, debrief about your experiences producing the PSA.
6.Individually, add a brief post to your collaborative team documentation related to the project. Your post should:

· clearly analyze the group’s pre-production, production, and post-production process; shot and editing selection; Web delivery formatting decisions.
· offer insights into how the group can improve their public service announcement.
· identify copyright attribution for assets.
· critique your team’s collaboration and interactions with each other.

Anything else I need to do? I’ll have a little time this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to do any editing that needs to get done. Don’t want to be bad team member, so anything that needs to be done, let me know!'
Max, the narration and sound are are well edited. The music is a great background and does not overwhelm the narration. While it is not necessarily the most riveting work (that is not a criticism, it’s not meant to be a comedy) it seems to be coming together nicely. Let me know if you need anything else. I’ll keep checking back to see when you are ready for us to look over the final version.

Back from Hunting. Got nothing. What do I need to do. Feel like a lump on a log this week. Haven’t done anything towards the project.

I haven’t seen anything yet and didn’t have any emails with any presentation. Where is it at?
I just got the email with the audio. sounds good. A little fast with colin’s voice, but I love the music with the idea of Internet safety.

I think we’re waiting for the video with audio. So far, with the audio, it sounds like we’re fulfilling the rubric properly. This is going to be a short, hard week in terms of getting stuff done.

Just looked at the assignment and it doesn’t look like anything it due for that this week. Am I correct?

I haven’t done ANYTHING this week! And then I thought I would have time this weekend and this is the first time I’ve had any time! I can’t figure out if something is due or not!

I guess it was a good weekend for me to go hunting. The program Says I am 100% complete. The assignement says to just keep working on project and there is nowhere to submit anything. I think some groups are not as efficient as us so they give them this time to get caught up. I think we are doing great.

Just noticed in the email it says NOTHING under what is do this week. Just make sure we are workin.g

No problem! What else needs to get done? do I need to look for any pics or re-do the recording? I also want to make sure I collaborate with April and Melissa and edit/make suggestions for the final video. I feel like I haven’t really done much and want to contribute as much as I can. We are doing good on time and on fulfillment. I keep looking at the rubric for Week 5, and it says we need to all upload a copy of the video ourselves. Do you think that means to the same site as well? I have much better luck with YouTube rather than Teacher Tube, but that’s just me. Also, I know we’ve shared our google doc with Linda, so is that how we fulfill our proof that we’ve worked and collaborated?
We all have to upload a copy? That’s strange. Tell me what I need to do, I’ve been a slacker!!!!
I wondered about the upload of a copy, too. Can we just upload our link, or do you think we have to load a copy maybe to our eportfolio? This whole class has been a little confusing. Did anybody else get the email explaining the grading? I also have better luck with YouTube. Surely we only have to load it to a public site once. I bet each of us has to submit that link and then put it on our eportfolio. I think our collaboration has been well documented in this google doc. We need to make sure that we document any variances between the final project and the storyboard. I don’t foresee any changes being made, but we need to keep track. Colin, as soon as Max posts the video I am ready to edit also. I think we just all need to keep checking. Remember, the assignment is due on Friday, NOT Sunday.
I’ve got it on my mind...we’re being allowed to leave school at 12:30 on Friday, so if worse comes to worse, I can come home and finish whatever I don’t get done monday-thursday night. Max, can you have the video up by Tuesday? This way, we can edit and make any suggestions and have some breathing room in case something has to change. Also, we can make sure we have our assignments in step to submit. Crazy week!
Sounds like a plan to me!
I don’t like this feeling of not knowing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing! I have felt like this the whole class, but luckily I’ve had you guys to ask about it! :)

I just attended the web conference. Dr. Abernathy is stressing 3 things this week: the revised pre-production document (I’m guessing script and storyboard), the google doc collaboration, and the final product. The “reflection” for the final exam does not have to be done because it is messed up on EPIC. We need to make sure we use the appropriate creative commons license for our finished video. Dr. Abernathy said not to stress about blog postings, but apparently they are still part of our grade. Dr. Abernathy also said we would not be penalized if we only had to postings for web conferences. For more information, you can watch the recording. I know it was recorded because the little red button came on. So, all we need to do now as a group is look at the final video, edit if needed, and document changes in the storyboard and/or script.....I think.

Is there an edited copy of the video yet? What can I do to help with it? Is Max working on that part?

I think that is what we are all waiting on at the moment. I believe the ball is in Max’s court.

What has changed picture wise so I can ensure that the copywriting is up to date? Just want to make sure we have that up to date.

Might want to do some updating to the week 3 assignment. isn’t that what we have to turn in this week (well, along with our blog postin, survey, and video)? Thank goodness we don’t have to do to Final Exam paper! That makes my night. Seriously.

Just took the two songs off since we are using the ones Max got. Not sure about the pictures though. Need to see a list of all pictures so I can put together the copyright materials, if in fact they are copyrighted.
Ok, the PSA has been emailed! Go Max! I thought it looked wonderful. It is a little rushed a couple of times, but that’s about the best we can do with the time constraints. The only thing I see missing is the creative commons license. That was mentioned specifically in the web conference. Are we going to be able to attach that to the credits? Dr. Abernathy also said we can make “corrections” to the original storyboard for the post production document. They just need to be able to tell what the corrections were. By the way Max, I loved the name of the production company. Nice touch.

I went into the week 3 assignment google doc and revised the shot list and narration (it only had a couple of changes). Would y’all look at it and see if you think that is good for our post production documents? I didn’t change anything in the copyright box, does it stay the same? Is someone looking at the creative commons stuff?
I thought that was Jason’s assignment. I can try to get something on that though. He’s done a ton and I haven’t done anything Does it need to go on the Week 3 assignment, or on our e-portfolio? The creative commons thing has to go on the YouTube video (like the podcast). The copyright stuff can be changed on the week 3 assignment I think. I’m going to take that information from the week 3 assignment doc and then copy and paste into a clean document to post for the week 5 assignment …..I think. I think we can send them the google doc, oh, I don’t know. We all have to submit the documentation. We need to decide if we want to just include the link, or copy and paste elsewhere. If we want to send Linda to the doc, I need to invite her, or make it public. We also have to put this doc (or collaboration proof) and the post production doc on TK20. I guess maybe we need to make all the docs public so we can send links to everybody. OK,no problem on the sharing; I actually invited Linda to this one right off. I guess I’m a little confused about one part: Does Max need the Creative Commons to put in the video, or can I just put the creative commons in the description box on YouTube, like I did with the podcast?
I think you can just put it in the description box.I’ll invite her to the week 3 assignment if we all just want to link to that for the post production doc. However, when we put it on Tk20, I wouldn’t know who to invite. I think we just make it public, like you said, or we can do something similar to when Jo was our IA: Put this huge conversation in a word document and send it via TK20/our assignment
That would work. I had forgotten that. I guess we can see what everyone wants to do.

Whose URL do I need to attribute this to? Can i attribute this to all of us personally? I’m going through the boxes and trying to come up with the license. Glad to have creativecommons.org!
Umm, I think you can attribute to us all personally.
Max, You Rock! Video came out great! Just need to find out which photos you got fro the website mentioned at hte end so I can give them proper credit.

OK, awesome! I’ve filled in the Title of Work, Attribute work to name. What else?
I think that’s it, isn’t it?I invited Linda to the week 3 assignment doc, but I really like the idea of transferring everything to a word document and sending it. I have been asking her about the “debriefing assignment”. It’s the chunk of assignment I posted earlier. We have to do it collabortively with the different color thing. This was the response I got: Post entire document on each members blog or you can post google docs; the main thing is that each group member show the collaboration as part of their assignment. Tomorrow I will put the points on here we need to cover and I guess everybody can address them.

OK, just to make sure I have this understood: we’re supposed to post the link to our PSA in YouTube, or do we have to all post the video to YouTube individually? I’m a little unclear, and I don’t want to miss anything.

By the way guys, I did the creative commons. It’s posted at the bottom of the Week 3 assignment, and I’ll put it here as well.

Looks good. This is the way I understand the assignment:
1. All of us have to submit the post production document (link for google doc for week 3 or pasting to word and attaching it)
2. All of us have to submit this document (either through the link or pasting to a word document)
3. All of us have to post the PSA to our eportfolios using the embedded code from Youtube.
The assignment I was talking about above is somewhat buried in the assignment. It just mentions a collaborative debriefing about the process.

Gotcha. Looks like we’ve got most of the work finished! Now that we don’t have to have the final exam paper, I bet we can finish most of this tomorrow. I really hope we’re not working on this the Friday night we get out for break!
I think we are almost done and can finish tomorrow. I will post those points early and then everybody can add their comments. I don’t think we have to format it like we did for the last class. Hope not, those were disasters.
If we want to print this document, it will turn it into a PDF and then we can submit it. I think that might be the best thing to do. :) I am about to update the week 3 assignment as well. I will put changes in orange!

Analysis of group experience.
1. As a team, debrief about your experiences producing the PSA.
2. Individually, add a brief post to your collaborative team documentation related to the project. Your post should:

  • clearly analyze the group’s pre-production, production, and post-production process; shot and editing selection; Web delivery formatting decisions.

The team did an excellent job with the pre-production phase of the project. Everyone contributed and adjustments were made early in light of team members comments. The script and story board were delivered on time and with all team members’ consent. Production was efficient as all team members contributed their part through a community Dropbox.Although we all agreed on what shots were to be used, Max put everything together and did most of the editing selection. We viewed it and agreed on its final form. We decided early that we would post our PSA on Youtube due to ease of use. Our team worked very hard in week three with the pre-production part of the assignment. This made everything easier in the following weeks. We agreed on the topic of our PSA quickly and went straight to the planning phase. Max was our editor and we let him determine the formatting and web delivery portion of the project, however we all had input into the shots and script for the PSA.

Our team worked very well together. By week 3 we had already gotten together and decided on what we where going to do our PSA on. Everyone immediately offered suggestions volunteered to do a part. Our group has worked together before and all of the personalities fit well. Each individual had their portion done ahead of time and everyone was very timely in offering suggestions for improvement. Overall our group worked very well together and everyone did a good part of the project.
We had a great mix of talent and interests, making the project much easier, since we knew what eachother could do. I was impressed with how quickly the project came together. Since we are in a technology master’s degree, we logically chose internet safety. With our varying life experiences and family situations, we were able to put a very different spin on a subject we figured everyone else was taking on as well. Everyone worked very hard, got their part done in a timely manner and were quick to offer both praise and improvement suggestions. It was a difficult, yet enjoyable project
  • offer insights into how the group can improve their public service announcement.

The public service announcement could be more cohesive and exciting if all members had been able to actively edit in stead of having to wait to analyze the final product. This would have been difficult to do when different schedules were considered. The only way this could have been improved would have been if we had all been able to get together physically and work on it and possibly been in the video ourselves. As this was not possible, I feel our final product is excellent!

Our public service announcement was well done, but with the time frame and technology available is not at the level of actually playing on TV. I feel the video Max did in the background went a little fast to Colins voice, but looked great. The Music was a great choice, especially for the topic, but he tempo also didn’t go with the tempo of the PSA. I feel the words we used where great, the music was great, and the pictures where great, but we did it over a long distance with all of us very far apart. If we where able to dedicate more time and be together to work on it we could have easily made it of caliper to appear on television

I feel, as the rest of my team does, that we could have done better with small aspects like tempo. If we had been working in an office together, rather than in 5 different places, we could have easily and quickly produced a PSA worthy of television. For what we were able to do from 5 different parts of Texas, I feel we did a very good job. Improvements that could have been made can be made by us in the future with practice
  • identify copyright attribution for assets.

The pictures, videos, and narration were created by team members so there would be no copyright infringement, the music was also copyright free. We were able to choose a creative commons license under each individual’s name. Early on we decided to use team members’ personal pictures so that we would not have any copyright issues. Later, the music was done this way also.
All pictures, videos, and narration were copyright free. The words used didn’t contain any quotes or information from anyone other then us. The pictures used were of us so there were no copy right issues there either.
All pictures were copyright free, since they were of us or our families. The music was also free of copyright (unlike happy birthday!), and we attained a creative commons license with eachother’s name.
  • critique your team’s collaboration and interactions with each other.

Our team does an exceptional job of collaborating and interacting with each other. This is the second project we have worked on together. After the first project we decided to remain together as a group for any other projects. We are able to identify strengths in each member and use those abilities to create high quality products. Any critiques are given in an informative, not insulting or demeaning, manner. After completing this project, I would not hesitate to work with this group again. This is a great group. We work great together and we all know what the strengths are in the group. When we first started this project, we all jumped in with what we would be comfortable and good at doing. This helped to start us out on the right foot. I would love to work with these people again if possible!
We all have been very blessed to have met in the beginning of the Graduate program and to have worked with each other on every group assignment. We all work great together, do our part and then some, and all seem to agree on the same concept. Whenever a member sees an area of improvement they offer the suggestion in a positive constructive way. Also, whenever a member has an issue or a personal matter come up the others offer help and suggestions to ensure the project gets done on time. Having gotten my Bachelors also online, which involved many group projects, I can say this is the best group I have ever worked with.
All I can say is, I wish these four were on my teaching team at work! We all met in 5306, and were very lucky to be grouped to critique eachother’s wiki’s. We decided to colaborate in teaching with Technology, worked unbelievebly well together, and decided to remain together for any future projects. I am very touched that the team has actually remained in contact outside of the projects. We have actually come to depend on eachother for questions and answers if one of us is confused, we just e-mail someone in the group and the problem is usually solved. We knew eachother’s stregnths from the previous projects, and I think that’s what helped the PSA come together so quickly. If these four were on my teaching team at work, my first year would be so much easier.

two questions:
1. Who is going to graduation? Was thinking about it.
Not me, I live as far away from Beaumont as you can get and still be in Texas. My girlfriend (hopefully soon to be fiancee) and mom are making me walk. I have no choice! Besides, it’s only 90 minutes away, so there’s no reason not to Congratulations....maybe. Wish I could come and meet y’all.
2. Related to the assignment blog post. Are we supposed to post a 2 paragraph summary for each of the 3 weeks or was the assignment we posted considered our blog post? And this week we are posting the summary? Are you asking about the web conference blogs? I think you do a 2 paragraph summary for each, but Dr. Abernathy said something about putting them all together if you wanted. I did 3 separate ones 2 paragraphs apiece.

To make this easier on Linda for Grading I think we shoot each put our name and color at the top of the document.

Just changed the copyright info portion on the assignment doc. I saw that Colin did it at the bottom, but it wasn’t done in that section under some of the revised work. Just covering all bases. I also put the citation for the pics that Max got off the internet. The cyber bully girl and the mother and daughter.
Looking at the week 3 assignment page, I realized that April and I both corrected the shot list. Hers is on the original and I created a new one at the bottom. I think we can use either one to submit. I may go grab the week 3 assignment, copy it, and fill it in with the new stuff. The rubric seems to ask about all the information from week 3, just in finished form. That’s what I did. I started with the Project Proposal (unchanged except for due date for first cut of video went to 12-13-11), Script Outline (unchanged), Narration Script (changed 2 words on assn. doc),Shot List (used my revised list), and finished with the Copyright Information (revised by Jason on assn. doc). That’s what I’m submitting in the Revised Pre-Production Document assignment space.

Y’all don’t forget to due the 3 conference call summaries mentioned in the EMail. Been so busy with other stuff I didn’t see that till tonight. It said to post them on your blog and submit that on up.
